The Tooling Engineer designs foundry patterns, core boxes, and gating / risering systems. This position works to understand customer requirements, ensure trouble-free manufacturability, and facilitate timely and scrap-free job start up.

The Tooling Engineer designs foundry patterns, core boxes, and gating / risering systems.  This position works with and through the Production Design Team (PDT) to understand customer requirements, ensure trouble-free manufacturability, and facilitate timely and scrap-free job start up.

As part of the Engineering Team, responsibilities for this position will include design and develop new tooling;  ensure sample delivery dates are met, and emphasize scrap minimization and quality consistency; Ensure the accuracy of blueprints and models; Generate casting redesign ideas to minimize scrap, facilitate single source manufacturability, and minimize finished part production costs;  Participate in customer interactions as needed to win approval of Donsco’s preferred design; Work to develop and/or modify casting blueprints and models as needed; Design and re-design gating and risering systems for new and existing jobs;  Follow established Donsco practices and emphasize scrap minimization and quality consistency above all other tooling design considerations; Participate in the sampling and sample approval processes by evaluating tooling performance and modifying tooling designs as needed; Ensure the timely inspection and rigging of new and/or transferred tooling; Create, implement, and improve a system for routinely identifying worn and/or damaged tooling which needs repair or replacement.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D; an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or other related technical discipline is preferred. Qualified candidates will have previous background in tooling design, plastic injection molding or die casting experience. Background in foundry is a plus, but not required.   Experience with CAM and Solid Edge is highly preferred.  In addition to the technical requirements, qualified applicants must possess excellent project management skills, be highly organized, and possess excellent problem solving and analytical abilities.
