Blake Whitley - Winner of 2012 AFS/FEF Student Technology Contest
Blake is a junior at The University of Alabama, studying Metallurgical Engineering under FEF Key Professor Dr. Laurentiu Nastac. His winning project was titled Novel Three-Dimensional Modeling Technology for Advanced Simulation, Printing, and Casting of A356 Impeller. Blake will receive a $2,000.00 scholarship from FEF, an AFS Merit Award and his project will be published in the Winter 2013 issue of the International Journal of Metalcasting.
Honorable mention was given to John Anderson, a junior Metal Casting student at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville studying under FEF Key Professor Dr. Kyle Metzloff, for his project Brass Investment Casting.
Also given honorable mention was Adam Humphrys, a senior Material Science and Engineering student at Virginia Tech studying under FEF Professor Dr. Alan Druschitz, for his project Water Modeling of Rotary Inert Degassing. Both honorable mentions will be published in the Winter 2013 issue of the International Journal of Metalcasting.
The Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF) and American Foundry Society (AFS) Technical Services established the Student Technology Contest to encourage metalcasting student technology. The projects submitted represent current or recent work by the students in the area of metalcasting technology and molten metal processing. The contest is intended to highlight student and senior projects, graduate research and other work. The submissions were judged for technical merit and quality by a panel of metalcasting experts.

FEF Key Professor, Doru Stefanescu, Receives "Honorary Doctor"
Jönköping University has the privilege to appoint honorary doctors who have contributed to the promotion of the academic quality and the success of our university. The Committee for Education and Research Education at Jönköping University is proud and honored to appoint Doru Stefanescu, as honorary doctor, Doctor Honoris Causa, of Jönköping University. The conferment of honorary doctors and PhDs and inauguration of full professors will take place on Saturday 29 September 2012 in Jönköping Concert Hall.

Board Members Visit Saltillo Campus
On December 7, 2011, five FEF representatives visited the campus of Instituto Tecnologico de Saltillo in Mexico to make a certification visit. The school passed, receiving a three year recertification period. Below are a few photos from the visit.
