Overview and Requirements

Overview
Carl was a Key Professor at Erie County Community College in Buffalo, New York for 34 years and taught Materials Science and Foundry Technology.  Many of his students went on to attend other universities and have led successful careers in the metalcasting industry. Three of Carl's students became professors teaching metal casting at FEF universities. The objective of this scholarship is to encourage students to consider choosing a career in education with an emphasis on metal casting and ultimately, to develop into an FEF Key Professors. The selection committee is comprised of Carl’s past students. The scholarship will be awarded to the student who shares Carl's drive to encourage interest in metalcasting. Write your application with the following requirements in mind.
YOU MUST HAVE A COMPLETE AND UPDATED FEF STUDENT PROFILE
Location
This scholarship will be awarded at the 2024 FEF College Industry Conference during the Awards Luncheon.
Requirements
Can be graduate student or undergraduate student that is currently accepted into a graduate program.
Must have a demonstrated interest in teaching and explain the pathway to achieving the goal of being a professor. (Teaching Assistant, Laboratory Assistant)
Should have the drive, energy and people skills that Carl had. These traits include:
   Involvement with professional organizations such as AFS and ASM
   Involvement in outreach with high schools, Scouts, or other groups to promote metalcasting
   Leadership and ability to communicate and make connections in the industry
   Mechanical aptitude and the ability to fix or repair/troublshoot lab equipment and other devices
Education
Attending or accepted at an FEF certified school in a foundry related field. (metallurgical engineering, materials science, etc.)
In a technology education program and taking coursework that improves your teaching ability
Residency
Preference is to US Citizen or permanent resident in the United States
North American Citizen (Canada, US, Mexico)

Work Experience
Preference given to students that have worked in a Foundry or Metalcasting related field.
Teaching experience/education is also a benefit.

October 21, 2024 - must be received by 4:00pm central time (deadlines are subject to change from year to year).
